Review the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M "Commander's Watch" Limited Edition Replica
The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M "Commander's Watch" stainless steel replica 212.32.41.20.04.001 was launched at an event in London to commemorate Bond's long-term use of the Seamaster in the film and his long-standing relationship with the Commander. The Commander's Watch Limited Edition is technically the same as the other replica Seamaster 300M Diver watches, with a 41mm case and the Omega 2500 calibre with Co-Axial escapement. The main difference is the colour scheme, with the strap and bezel reflecting the colours of a Royal Navy Ensign. The bezel is blue ceramic with liquid metal scales and the dial is white ceramic.
The Case
With a 41mm steel case (water-resistant to 300m, of course), these are mostly cosmetic changes to the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M replica watch that is actually Omega’s entry-level mechanical men’s watch. As Bond helped make the NATO strap cool, this version appropriately comes on a five-stripe blue, red, and gray polyamide NATO strap, but it also comes with the five-link steel bracelet that is very much part of the Seamaster 300M’s character. The clasp has the Omega branding along with the 007 logo and even the “TM Danjaq” trademark.
The Dial
The dial of the Omega Seamaster Diver 300m “Commander’s Watch” imation is also presented for the first time on this model in polished white ceramic, with the familiar raised indexes being circled in blue. The inscription “Seamaster” is written in red, and the skeleton hands which have been filled with luminous paint, are coated in blue – all together creating a fresh, sporty look. To complement this new look, a NATO strap in blue, red and grey, follows a 5-stripe pattern and it comes with a polished steel buckle.
A number of details also make this fake Omega Seamaster Diver 300m “Commander’s Watch” unique, for instance the 007 gun logo counterweight on the red central seconds hand, and the number 7 in the date window which is coloured red, while the other numbers are blue. The caseback is also has its own special features, such as the “three stripes” of the Commander’s naval insignia featured on the rotor, along with the 007 “bullet” design.
The Movement
Through a sapphire crystal case back, the rotor caries the Royal Navy’s Commander rank insignia (loop above two stripes) and winds the Omega Co-Axial 2507 COSC chronometer-certified movement. This is different from the standard production Seamaster Diver 300M’s caliber 2500 movement and solid case back. The caliber 2507 has been used in other James Bond 007 limited edition watches, and I believe the main difference from the 2500 is found in its decoration – specifically, the “bullet” design in the center. The caliber 2500 movements are based on the ETA 2892, upgraded with Omega’s Co-Axial technology, and beat at an unusual 25,200vph frequency and boasts a 48h power reserve. It is chronometer certified by COSC.
