As part of the TAG Heuer Monaco 50th anniversary, the brand is rolling out a series of five limited edition pieces commemorating the iconic square-cased watch. The first limited edition was done in the spirit of the decade spanning between 1969-1979, and now we’ve gotten the second piece which is inspired by the decade between 1979-1989. Here we have the TAG Heuer Monaco 1979-1989 Limited Edition 50th anniversary red dial 39mm watch replica CAW211W.FC6467, and while I didn't expect to see a bright red Monaco watch, it looks pretty cool in its ruby majesty. Like each of the five lines TAG Heuer is releasing, this one is also going to be done in a limited edition run of 169 pieces.
The rest of the dial of this Monaco 1979-1989 Limited Edition is the same as the other models, with the typical horizontal, polished, faceted applied indexes, and the "Monaco" hands filled with white Super-LumiNova. For the rest, the display is familiar, with a date at 6 o'clock framed by a white painted line, small seconds at 3 o’clock and a 30-minute counter at 9 o'clock. The old "Heuer" logo has also been kept.
The Story
This model is specifically associated with the 24 hours of Les Mans race and the now-ubiquitous 1971 film Le Mans with Steve McQueen. It was 1971 when Steve McQueen famously wore the Monaco in the movie Le Mans, and this watch captures the vibes from a decade after Mr. McQueen had propelled the watch squarely into horological stardom. The '80s were a wild time for the racing world, and the Monaco captures the spirit with a sunray red dial and two rhodium-plated registers.Case & Dial
Just as with the standard TAG Heuer Monaco watch fake, the watch is housed in a 39mm wide stainless steel case. This theme is the lifeblood of the TAG Heuer Monaco 1979-1989 Limited Edition fake, with its fiery, bold red dial. The colour isn't the only difference compared to the classic blue Monaco (the Steve McQueen-inspired model ref. CAW211P). That red dial isn’t horizontally brushed or matte but adorned with a sunray brushed pattern, radiating from the centre of the dial. The result is a vivid and playful dial, which changes colour according to the ambient light – from a dark burgundy red to a bright "Ferrari" red. Also new are the sub-counters. Usually shaped as squares with rounded angles, TAG Heuer introduces here some new ones, with a more ovoid/cushion design. These are horizontally brushed and rhodium plated. The rest of the dial of this Monaco 1979-1989 Limited Edition is the same as the other models, with the typical horizontal, polished, faceted applied indexes, and the "Monaco" hands filled with white Super-LumiNova.
